Our dear No. 1 female Namie Amuro, the one who captivates all of Asia, appears in ST after a long absence!! She answered questions from ST and readers. And don’t miss the message from Miss Amuro!

A Rock Dance Number and A New Song Filled with the Summer Mood!

Amuro-chan will release her next double A-side single Break It/Get Myself Back on 7/28. Please tell us about your impressions of these new songs.

“Break It seems very cool. I sing this with a lot of power because it is one of the keys to enhancing the mood. I think Get Myself Back has a more summer-like feeling. My first impression was, “this seems like a very fun song to sing,” since I rarely do summery tracks. I wanna sing this song with a lot of enthusiasm for everyone. It makes me think “summer! ocean!” so my plan is to complete the PV with that feeling. There is no dancing but since I have many songs I usually dance too… conversely, it’s probably okay this time (laughs). Though I’m not sure what to do with my hands when I sing this (laughs).

ST & ST readers asked
Our dear Amuro! She directly hits upon our problems and worries. She answers us so sweetly with deepe motions.

What kind of feeling do you go for in normal clothes?

I am stubbornly casual. Denim, T-shirts, etc. I like to feel comfortable in my clothes. This year I bought many maxi dresses from my stylists/ Though I’m rarely the type to buy coordinating accessories, I think, for the summer, that turquoise and such would be cute.

What kind of feeling do you aim for in your everyday make-up?

My point is “so natural it’s unclear whether I’m wearing any.” I put on foundation and brush just a little powder on my brows. I don’t do eye make-up. I don’t wear lipstick either. I’m done in about 10 minutes.

What do you want to challenge in the future?

If there is anything I can only do at this age, something that will challenge me, then I think I want to take that on.

What is the thing you look forward to most lately?

Eating delicious things at different locales. I ate somme guytoro flakes in Hokkaido that were delicious. They place really finely minced beef on piping hot rice and then you eat it with some gree onions and wasabi shoy. I want to try mail-ordering some!

I become stressed very easily. What methods do you recommand I should do to relax?

I get stressed way easily too! So I go on with the energy, saying “Let nature take its cours.” Because I haven’t found a way to stop it, I just have to stand like I do on stage and believe in myself that everything will be okay. I wonder if aromatics would help? Like vanilla and rose.

How can we sing Amuro’s songs well at karaoke?

With energy, basically!! But what else, I wonder? I’ll have to think hard about it. Especially for up-tempo songs.

What do you do when things seem to be going badly?

I tell myself to feel like “try it again!” ‘Cause there are many things I need to do. Gotta have a fighting spirit!

What would be a good starting point in getting to know Amuro-chan?

I think anything is fine because there is plenty to talk about. (While looking at Mirei on the ST cover) I saw her performance in the drama Jotei Kaoruko! Her accent was very cute.

I am a 2nd year HS student so is it too late for me to start dancing?

It’s never too late! I think finding your favorite genre is like getting into different fashion, it’s all good. I recommend getting into a school to get better. Then you can get comfortable with a teacher you admire.

Suppose it were the last day on Earth, what would you do?

I’d probably spend my time doing the same things I always do (laughs).

At what times would you say fortunate things happen to you?

It’s just about timing. If everyone were to do good work at their own pace, then surely good things would steadily happen for them. It’s important to try your very best when you face such times, isn’t it? I occasionally have times where I feel “ah, I’m so tired” before work even begins (laughs). But those times cheer me up as well. It lifts my mood when my stylists do my hair and make-up and they get me ready in cute clothing. And naturally the tension rises because everyone on my staff is doing their best as well.

What do you think is really awesome about your job?

When I can do work that yields good results and everyone says “wow, amazing~!” And recently I was able to go Monaco to receive the award for Best Asian Artist at the World Music Awards.

Can you see fans during lives? Can you hear their voices?

I can see them. I can hear them too. Like there was this cute girl I watched intently. And I’m always shocked when I spot people I know in the audience (laughs). And, fans who wear sparkley clothing are easy to notice since the lights reflect off them.

What fashion do you think a female HS student should try?

Something cute. There were many fashionable people back when I was a teen. If you’re good at choosing multi-use items and clothing, I think you’ll still be able to enjoy being fashionable even if you don’t have much money. Anyhow, when you’re young, you need to challence yourself with things you like! Though I have faint memories of “what was cool back in the day,” I think I still live by those experiences today too. Anything can be experienced, you know!!

I long for very beautiful hair. What is your usual hair-do?

THough I will curl my hair when I’m in the mood for it, it’s normally straight. I do nothing too special because I have dry hair. I think hair should be treated gently. I take sections into my hands and rub conditioner in with my fingers.

I want to be a wonderful woman like you, Amuro-chan. What must I absolutely do in my teen years?

I was already working when I was a teen, but back in those days I never thought about the present or the future ahead. I only vaguely remember having fun while working and not even thinking about whether that time would come to an end or not. But when I turned 20? I know someday that such days would end and I started to think about what I should do . I had a lot of worries when I was young. Of course, when I became an adult, I still had things to worry about, but I know I had to solve them and move forward, no matter how impossible they appeared. “I feel worried and stressed, I can’t quite find any solutions, but I’m going to enjoy life every day anyway” is exactly what being a youth should be like! I think you just need to have fun and enjoy such precious years because you can never be a kid twice. So, let yourself be a kid in your teens (laughs)!

Give a message to the readers!

I think it’s really important not feel scared to challenge yourself; you will gain ‘experience points’ doing so. It’s important to just try at first rather than hesitate and to take on what’s before you while still having fun. I wish I could o back to my younger years (laughs)!
