Right now, the mini-skirt is really hot! Who do they suit more than anyone else in Japan? That is of course….Amuro-chan, who wears her mini-skirts with a boldness and an individuality that no one can imitate! For 45 minutes she talked to me honestly about music, fashion, and even her private life…and from there I was able to see the strength that allows her to wear mini-skirts so perfectly!

Q. Do you usually wear mini-skirts?
A. This year I’ve been wearing man different kinds of mini-skirts, from tight jean minis to minis that look like tennis skirts. The trick to wearing mini-skirts is bare legs.

Q. How do you shop?
A. I’m an impulse buyer. I’m also the type where if I find something I like, I’ll buy the same thing in different colors.

Q. Who do you think the ‘Queen of the mini-skirt’ is?
A. Christina Aguilera. She’s really cute, and I feel like she always chooses what suits her, and wears it with dignity.

Q. Is there a style you’re into lately?
A. Tommy Girl, like always. I also like the double-name items from Love Boat and Sports Brand.

Q. What’s a point in your everyday clothes?
A. I think that because I wear so many different clothes for work, I don’t really think about my everyday clothes that much. (laugh) For example, if I make up one outfit that I really like, I’ll wear it over and over. And when I oversleep, I just put together an outfit with whatever’s lying around. But for some strange reason I tend to get really into the outfits that I just put on randomly.

Q. What is one item you want right now?
A. A want a casket cap, so I’m currently searching around shops for one.

Q. What are you particular about in regards to fashion?
A. Wearing what suits me. Even if clothing is cute, it’s sad when the clothing overwhelms the person. If there were two outfits, one people said ‘That’s so cool!’ about, and one they said ‘It’s ok.’ about, I would first try them on, and pick the one which looked best on me. I think that you never know about clothing unless you actually try it on.

Q. How do you relieve stress?
A. When I’m irritated about something I wash the dishes! When I get home, I put my bag down and head straight to the kitchen, and as I’m washing the dishes I gradually start to feel better. (laugh).

Q. What are you into right now?
A. The games that I play during the breaks at recordings or PV filmings. I play all different kinds, from Uno to Play Station.

Q. What do you do on your days off?
A. I like to watch concert videos at home. I like Jennifer Lopez and Britney (Spears’) dancing.

Q. Do you go out on the town at night?
A. Not lately. But when I get the urge, I focus on it and go out drinking with the girls from MAX, and that kind of thing. Even on those rare occasions I go to clubs, I just sit and drink and make a lot of noise. Oh, maybe sometimes I get drunk and get carried away and find myself dancing!

Q. What is one thing that you make sure to do every day?
A. I soak in the bathtub, reading a magazine, until I’m sweating.

Q. Do you have a plan for summer this year?
A. I want to go to N.Y I love the fashion and the music, and it’s a country where all different kinds of people from all different countries are gathered, so I feel like I get stimulated by various things just walking around.

Q. Do you want a pet?
A. I’d like to keep a golden retriever. They’re so big, and they seem so intelligent, and gentle…I feel like I’d be comforted just by being with one.

Q. Describe your personality in one word.
A. Particular. I’m stubborn about everything. Whether it’s work or fashion, if I think ‘This is it!’, I never make compromises about it.

Q. How is your social circle?
A. Just as small as ever. I’m basically shy, after all. But my shyness depends on the person, and also on my mood. When I’m hyper I can talk with a lot of people, but normally, I can’t really talk that much. (laugh)

Q. What’s your type?
I like quiet guys. With guys who can talk really coherantly about work, but don’t really talk much otherwise, I want to know them better, and I get really interested in them. But if they talk a lot from the very beginning, I get shy. I think ‘I wish I could go back to my dressing room already…’ (laughter)

Q. When do you fall in love?
A. I fall in love not when someone’s really cool all though, but when I’ve found some cool part inside a person that only they have. It could even be something really small, like that they look good with a beard, or that they look cute even though they’re chubby. Not that I would fall in love with a chubby guy with a beard. (laugh) I guess I’m really weak for people who have an atmosphere that is all their own, unlike anyone else.

Q. How is your lyric writing going?
A. I wrote the lyrics to ‘Drive’, the B side track to ‘shine more’. When I listened to the song, it seems really sweet to me, and I got the image of going for a drive with a boyfriend. I can see Rainbow Bridge from my house, and it’s so beautiful! I thought, ‘I’d love to go on a drive, in the passenger’s seat of my boyfriend’s car, looking at that view on a beautiful day.’

Q. What’s your ideal of the ideal artist?
A. Madonna or Janet Jackson. I don’t think there are that many people who have been singing for so long, and are past 40, and yet have so much power, and can sing and dance and can do so many challenging things. No matter how many young singers of the moment appear, like Britney or Aguilera, Madonna and Janet are special. They have a strong core that doens’t change, and yet they keep advancing, and showing new sides of themselves, and are apparaised for it. I think that that’s what really amazing people do.

Q. What’s your ring tone?
A. Just the normal ‘ring ring ring!’ one. I don’t want to change my ring tone for each caller. Because that would be boring, because even if your cell phone was far away, you’d know right away ‘Oh, so and so is calling!’ I have mine so that you can secretly tell who it is by the light color.
