COMMENTARY

Amuro Namie has known TLC for many years before this song was released, first being a fan of their music in her youth then collaborating with their producer Dallas Austin from 1999.

The very first version she recorded of Put ‘Em Up was actually a duet with Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, one of the members of the band.

At the occasion of their 20th anniversary, TLC asked Amuro Namie to join them in a new version of their signature song Waterfalls. She sings late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes’ part which caused contoversy, Lopes’ family claiming they were not informed of this version.

The song was only released digitally on itunes Japan and Amazon Japan, as well as physically on the Japanese edition of the 20th anniversary album as an extra song in addition to the original Waterfalls.

T-boz and Chilli made in return a cameo appearance in Amuro Namie’s music video, Hands On Me.
